Demystifying the link between knowledge management capability and innovation ambidexterity: organizational structure as a moderator

Purpose This study examines the relationship between knowledge management (KM) capability and innovation ambidexterity, their subsequent influence on firm performance. It also investigates whether organizational structure – in terms of connectedness centralization helps to develop a suitable context that either hinders or catalyzes effectiveness KM predicting ambidexterity. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 336 manufacturing organizations Pakistan using random sampling technique. Partial least square-based structural equation modelling (PLS–SEM) was employed analyze data. Findings Results reveal is positively linked with ambidexterity Innovation mediates link Connectedness moderates association However, negatively Research limitations/implications research offers theoretical insights into when how effective prompting performance through by creating context. Practical implications The indicates may an ambidextrous manner organization as long proficient context, i.e. support it. Organizations should strive sustained capabilities because these are seminal for enabling challenging task exploiting existing resources while tapping new opportunities explorative breakthroughs.
